The Department of Media, Music and Photography draws on
courses from two of the college’s fastest growing academies.
The Bristol Academy of Media Arts (BAMA) provides a focus
for the work of our media and photography students, while
the music students fall within the prestigious South West
Academy of Dramatic Arts, which supplies professional
performance spaces and resources.
Facilities
Our qualifications allow you to progress from level 1, with the Creative and Media Diploma, through to the level 2 First Diplomas and level 3 National Diplomas in Media and Music and, ultimately, onto the Photography pathway of the Foundation Degree in Creative Practices.
The Department’s Media qualifications have enabled students to progress all the way from level 1 right through to undergraduate study at University. We have grounded our courses in the industrial practices that are at the heart of media production, with notable collaborations with our performing arts and art and design colleagues leading to feature and short film work of a high quality.
Our photography students enjoy excellent facilities, from our newly installed digital suite to the more traditional resources of both black and white and, a rarity within education, colour chemical processing. Former students have graduated from our own Foundation Degree and other university courses and moved into working with such high profile companies as Magnum.
The SWADA Music department is Bristol’s most comprehensive course in music performance, covering all styles from classical to pop. It combines a thorough training in aural skills, theory and composition with a focus on solo and ensemble musicianship, led by experienced practitioners in excellent performance facilities. There are also components covering sound production and MIDI technology, with the overall aim of producing a confident, all-round musician with good working knowledge of the industry.
