Animal Sciences

Do you want to learn about animals? If the answer is yes, then join the Animal Management and Conservation Team. They will have a course for you. There is nowhere better to gain the knowledge and experience required in this growing Industry.

Our experienced team of lecturers will deliver a qualification to suit you, from Entry Level to Veterinary Nursing. All the courses are recognised by empoyers in the Industry.

All of these qualifications require experience with animals and you will certainly gain that. You will have the opportunity to work on local farms, with a county wildlife charity, in our brand new well-stocked Animal House at Filton College and Bristol Zoo Gardens, a fantastic unique experience for any student.

We can make your dreams come true with the opportunity to learn about animals, from their everyday care to behaviour and management. Studying Animal Care with Filton College will give you the practical experience you require.

This will include practical animal handling and husbandry using the wide range of species and housing found at our sites.;

  • Zoo Animals.

Students are taught at Filton Main site and for our level 3 students in our new education centre at Bristol Zoo Gardens. You may work with zoo keepers at the zoo studying animal behaviour, management of animal collections, breeding and nutrition. This is a rare opportunity to get close to exotic and endangered animals with expert supervision.

Course criteria

All Land Based courses contain assessments that help get the best out of the student. They are ongoing throughout the course and include assignments, presentations, posters and practical assessments with no final exams. With the support of the teaching staff, students are encouraged and set targets on their
main programmes and alongside this are fully integrated key skills.

This allows a student to follow a clear route of progression within the department.
