England Touch is proud to be hosting the 2010 European Championships at Filton College WISE Campus, Bristol from Thursday 22nd July until Sunday 25th July.
This will be the eighth time the biannual European Touch Championships will be contested, and the third time the event has been hosted by England - the last was in 1998.
The competition will involve, amongst others, European nations England, Jersey, Scotland, Wales, Guernsey, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Switzerland; who will all compete for the coveted European trophy. Invitational teams travelling from New Zealand and Australia may also be present including an Australian School rep side.
The 2008 European Championships was held in Massy, France. These Championships involved 700 players, 45 teams, and 50 referees from across Europe. It is anticipated that these numbers will significantly increase for the 2010 Championships as countries look to send additional teams, and more countries get involved.
The 2010 European Touch Championships is anticipated to build on the success of previous events and help promote Touch to a wider audience through local, national and international media attention in what will be a festival of the sport of Touch.
Filton College Principal, Kevin Hamblin comments: “This will be the biggest European Touch Rugby Championships ever. More than a dozen European nations will compete for the championships in Men's Women's, Mixed and Several Senior divisions. It is a pleasure to have this tournament take place at Filton College. The College is expecting thousands of spectators including many of the College’s own staff and student’s.”
