Joe Stotesbury, student and player at Filton College’s Table Tennis Academy, was awarded the Helena Kennedy Foundation Award for his achievement and hard work throughout his time at Filton College.
The Helena Kennedy Foundation provides support to students within the further education sector, who have overcome significant obstacles, both financial and personal, to complete their further education.
Choi Szi To, Head Coach at Filton College’s Table Tennis Academy comments: “Joe’s disability has not stopped him finishing a Higher National Diploma course in Sports at Filton College, he is also a Great Britain Paralympic player who’s World Ranking has climbed up from 53 to 16. He narrowly missed out on a place in the Beijing Paralympics in 2008 but has been selected for this year world championships. Joe fully deserves his Helena Kennedy Award; it is recognition of all his hard work. Joe can be very proud of his achievement. He has been an asset to the Table Tennis Academy, myself and the team wish him the best for the future.”
The Helena Kennedy Foundation Awards recognises Joe’s determination in education as well as his consistent outstanding achievement in his sport. He won Team Bronze Medal in the Italian Open. He also took silver at the British National Championships in his class in Crewe after overcoming strong opponents ranked above him.
Joe has completed his further education and has been invited to join the National table tennis training centre in Sheffield in the coming year.
